[Blog] Section 6 Relaunch
Written by CaughtInTheBrambles on Monday, 20th Dec 2010 12:03

Section 6 has a new members-only website and a Facebook page as well, a clear mission statement and a clear intent.

Why members only? Well, we had over 150 people signed up to the old forum yet few ever showed their faces. A membership scheme ensures we know who our active members are and clearly how we are progressing.

Since our attempts at getting a youth/student concession in the Sir Bobby Robson Stand Lower are falling on deaf ears from the club, Section 6 at home is down to the bare bones, the younger teenage fans can no longer get into Section 6 so the older members are holding the fort.

That is not to say we are silent. In the two years of Section 6's existence we have gained the respect of many of the season ticket holders around us, indeed they now sing alongside us where before they may not have had the opportunity.

We are undaunted, whilst our younger members now either watch from the Upper Tier or just stay away, we will keep Section 6 growing. But we need new blood to grow.

We always welcome singers in Section 6. The recent games against Leeds, West Brom and even Saturday's winter wonderland showed the North Stand has not lost its voice.

If any of those voices, stuck in an area of the SBRS that feels dead and does not join in your songs, want a change, please come over to Section 6 and join us for a game, the view is good, the atmosphere is better and you will get the opportunity to sing throughout the game.

If you are a singer without a season ticket who is going to the Arsenal home leg or indeed any home game, please ask if there are spare seats in Section 6. With the Arsenal fans taking the whole Cobbold Stand they will be in close proximity to Section 6, so banter will finally be possible as it was against Northampton.

The criticism that Section 6 is a bunch of kids does not apply at home any more. What you will find is loud singers and a wide repertoire of songs, plus some humour and good honest football discussion, not endless whingeing.

We will not stop campaigning, both for a youth concession and for other issues pertinent to the state of football. Our banner on Saturday is below.

I am sure you agree it is absolutely right, not just for the younger of our fans but anyone priced out of seeing the club they love.

We also support the FSF Safe Standing Campaign. There is a ten minute rule bill going through Parliament put forward by Don Foster MP for Bath, this is in keeping with Lib-Dem Policy. The bill's introduction can be heard and seen here. The second reading of the bill is on 17th June 2011. Please find a few minutes to write to your MP to suggest they support this bill and reverse the stupid rules inflicted on us post-Taylor Report.

Simultaneously Scunthorpe United, if they survive in the Championship, will have to remove the terraces from their ground. This is patently absurd, a relatively new ground with modern safe terracing, will have to be seated lowering the ground capacity and making the fans stand in a seated area. If you agree this is nonsense then please sign the petition here and show some solidarity for Scunny fans and a currently live safe standing issue.

If both these arguments are won, the likelihood is that the attitude towards standing at football will change, stewards will be less under pressure to get us to sit and we can get on with enjoying the game unhassled by them. We will be happier, the stewards will be happier and a new future will look assured for football.

Section 6 is alive and well, we will persist and will grow and make our voices heard.

“I hear those voices that will not be drowned” - our motto taken from Peter Grimes by Benjamin Britten.

Well done lads. Too many fans these days are content to sit like dummies at matches, clap politely occasionally, and turn around and glare at you or 'tut, tut' if you dare to sing or (heaven forbid) express an opinion using a bad word! IMHO, if fans want a quiet experience then they should go into one of the side stands or GK Stand - the North/SBR Stand has always been the Ipswich Kop and its where all the noise and atmosphere originally emanated from.

I grew up in the 80s when going to football was dangerous at times, but the bad side of the violence apart, there was PASSION! Fans had fun, they sang a bit, shouted a bit, bantered with the away fans, and generally released the pressure of the previous working week. Anything that makes the soulless plastic experience we get these days a bit better, I'm all for it.

COYB!

Good effort, but ITFC are so set in their ways about ticket prices it won't change anything. It's the clubs loss as the attendance has dropped between 3000-4000 on an average game.

Keep trying lads!
Personally I think terraces will be remembered along with the fights in the 70's and will not and should not return. Prices are high, but so are players wages, if you want a campaign ask Norris and Co to take a pay cut.
Why not ALL go in the upper tier, and become Section X, where you can get cheap-er tickets?

Best thing you can do is go upstairs you will make more noise as roof is closer plus anyone can go up there, finally you also get the aid of the few remaining lower singers. They will follow upstairs over 2 years but you need to make it clear early that is your intention
